Anyone who's ever been to Cameroon has seen or smelled it
wanted to try it. Those who have already tried it love it – Suya .
Suya is a typical West African street food with addictive potential.
These skewers are grilled and sold at the roadside. Every Suya barbecue master has their own recipe for their kankan .
The main ingredients of the Suya spice mix – Kankan – are: roasted peanuts | pepper | allspice powder |
Suya are often served with grilled plantains, finely chopped onions, and, for those who can handle more spice, a touch (or more) of allspice powder. To round it all off, a bottle of soft drink like Djindja (for the truly hardcore), Foléré , or simply fresh water is served alongside.
But if you've never tried Suya before? No problem, here you'll find a simple recipe with which you can conjure up delicious Suya skewers at home and thus bring a piece of Western American street food flair into your kitchen.
Have fun skewering!
