Strawberry season started a few weeks ago here, and like every year, we get the first ones from the strawberry stand just around the corner. They're not quite as flavorful in the first few weeks, but over time the taste gradually intensifies while the price decreases. Once we're in the thick of strawberry season, we realize that summer isn't far away.
Strawberries are truly something special. Their shape and color remind me of a heart, and therefore, among all fruits, they are the ultimate symbol of love for me.

At our house, my husband is the "strawberry inspector." He's the one who gets the strawberries and then prepares them according to his own recipe. I often discreetly watch him as he lovingly prepares what I call " Strawberry Time ." He told me a few days ago that the original recipe came from his mother. "She uses raspberry syrup instead of sugar," he added, "and then drizzles it with a few drops of lemon juice." He's adapted the recipe to his own taste, but we love it just the same. The whole family loves enjoying a bowl of Strawberry Time as a light dessert after a hearty meal. So, after each strawberry season, we end up consuming an average of four to five kilograms of strawberries per person.
The recipe is simple and the taste is simply wonderful. Why not try it yourself?.

Strawberry season
Ingredients
- 1 kg fresh strawberries
- 3-4 tablespoons of sugar
- cream
- 1/2 Lemon or lime (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the strawberries with cold water, remove the green tops, cut the strawberries lengthwise into 2 or 4 pieces (depending on size), and place them in a bowl
- Add sugar and (optionally) a few drops of lemon or lime juice, mix well and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least half an hour
- Then place in small bowls, serve with freshly whipped cream or whipped cream from a can, and enjoy chilled. If desired, you can also enjoy the strawberries with 1-2 scoops of vanilla ice cream. This enhances the cooling effect, especially in summer.
